Tip of the Month - September
Clean machines work faster and longer.
It’s very tempting to spend a bit of time now and again updating your mp3 library or downloading free programs from the Internet that you think might be useful. That's fine on a home PC but should be discouraged on your work computer.
At Aires we recommend that you just use the Programs that you originally ordered for your network, like the Microsoft Office suite and any other officially licensed products that you bought. Don't transfer photos, videos or any other personal files from home to office. Never download shareware programs or trials of programs you are unlikely to buy in the future; do some research and buy a product that has been recommended by others, otherwise you might find it difficult to remove / replace in the future, should you change your mind. Keep your work PC clear of anything that isn't necessary to run your business.
Boring stuff maybe, but the fewer programs you run, and the less files you accumulate, means there is less chance of a software conflict and your machine will run more efficiently. Some easily downloadable programs aren't even suitable for the network versions of Windows you are probably running, so if in doubt: cut it out.
If you're looking at something that you really think might be useful for your business, but aren't sure if it's compatible with your system, try talking to your network administrator or trusted techie.
And lastly, just because this seems pretty sensible to you, don't forget to gently let your staff know your policy. Otherwise you never know what might end up on your system one quiet Friday afternoon……
